The Toddler Rooms
Children need to have the freedom to lead their own learning…
The toddler rooms provide care for children aged between 24 and 36 months. Freedom is one of the most important skills in life, but this is a skill we can not teach. Freedom allows children to create their own activities, solve their own problems, make friends, manage emotions and interact with their peers.
We have a main toddler room where the children have access to a construction area, maths corner, a role play area (which is changed weekly for the children to grow their imagination), and a cosy den to read stories and have some quiet time. The toddler room has a separate arts and crafts room where the children can get messy and explore their creative side. The children have a separate toilet and nappy area which they can access from inside and outside. We free flow into our toddler garden where, again, the children have an environment full of awe and wonder.
Developing Independence
At Abbotswood we nurture the children's independence from an early age. It is important for children to learn independence so that later in life they become self-sufficient individuals. Toddler children will thrive within an environment which creates opportunities for them to do more for themselves. If nurtured from an early age, children will want to develop those skills to enable them to become less dependent on adults. During mealtimes, we encourage children to serve their own food, promote the use of their cutlery and even help with washing up.
