Babies Playing In Sandbox

Growth - Babies

When your child starts at the nursery the staff will have an in-depth conversation with you about your child’s routine. In the baby room we very much follow the children’s home routine in regard to sleeps, bottles, needs and interest, but we do have a general pattern that we follow.

Breakfast is accessible to the children from 8am until 8.45am they can choose from a range of cereals, toast, bagels and crumpets. Once the children have finished the room is set up ready with lots of activities for them to go off and enjoy.

At 9am we sit down and have our baby bee time. We sing our hello song and other songs whilst taking turns holding our baby bee and other song props.

We then split into two groups. One group will access a physical activity which could be going out in the garden, going on a walk or accessing soft play. The second group have access to the continuous provision indoors as well as a planned focused activity. All activities and set ups of resources are based on their interests and flow of the year.

After being so busy it’s time to come together again and have songs and stories before we sit down to our home cooked lunch. We all sit together either around the tables or in our floor highchairs. The practitioners are on hand to support us feed ourselves.

Some children like to have a sleep after lunch in our cosy sleep room listening to music and watching the stars. For the children who are awake we turn off the main lights and switch on the twinkly lights to have some cosy Hygee time.

The afternoon then mirrors our morning activities. We have an afternoon snack at 2pm which is normally fruit or crackers and dips. The children that did not go outside in the morning will access the garden or go on a walk.

Before our tea at 4pm, we have a music and movement session, listening to music, playing our instruments, and moving our bodies.

Then between 5pm and 5.45pm its time to go home after a busy day!

Awe and Wonder - Tweenies

Breakfast is accessible to the children from 8am until 8.45am. Once the children have finished, the room is set up with lots of activities for them to go off and enjoy.

The children are then invited to sit down for circle time at 9am, where they sing their hello song and choose other songs to sing.

We have a range of focused activities planned out for the day, including music sessions, active story times, learning about the world, mark making sessions and much more.

Then it’s time to get our all-in ones on, cold weather gear, or slap on some sun cream to go and play outdoors! Outside we can ride the bikes, build in the construction area, play in our messy sensory tray, or go out for walks in nature.

Before we sit down to our home cooked lunch, we do our activity ‘what’s in the bag’. This game uses the children’s interests or the time of year to let the children explore a theme or topic, discussing the object they pull out and finding out more about it.

At 11.30am the children all sit around a large table to eat their lunch. The children are supported to serve their own food and encouraged to use a fork and spoon. We talk about the food we are eating, what we have enjoyed that day and what we would like to add in the afternoon.

After such a busy morning, for some of us it is time for a sleep. We lay on our beds with blankets and comforters and have a good rest ready for the afternoon.

We have a little snack at 2pm and a glass of milk to get us ready for our afternoon activities, which are similar to the morning, but extending and enhancing what we have been doing.

Freedom - Toddlers

Breakfast is accessible to the children from 8am until 8.45am. Once the children have finished the room is set up with lots of activities for them to go off and enjoy.

At 9am we all sit down together and sing our hello song, days of the week, and our nursery rhymes.

We then talk through emotions and how we are all feeling.

We can then choose to play indoors or outdoors. There are accessible activities we can choose from independently or we can get involved in a focused group activity. Our focused group activities happen every morning and afternoon. We have a music session in our Hygge room with harpist Lianne Hopkins, physical sessions (including dance!), art and messy sessions, geography sessions and much more.

We offer a free flow snack at 10am, so if the children are involved in something and they do not want to come away from it, they don’t have to. They can access it when they have finished. We offer a range of different snack items, including fruit, crackers and dips, and warm soup in the winter.

At 11.30am, we all come together again for circle time and a story. We have a range of different story sacks that bring the books alive for the children, with props and pictures that they can get involved with.

We all sit down together for our home cooked lunch. In the toddler room, we encourage independence, so the children are involved in setting up the table, serving themselves, clearing their plates away and even loading the dishwasher.

After that busy morning, some of us are in need of some much-needed rest, so we go off to our Hygee room for a sleep in the twinkly lights. Those of us that do not need to sleep have access to some quieter activities in the main playroom.

At 2pm, we have a snack to fuel us ready for our afternoon play.

The afternoon is a mirror of the morning, offering free flow access between indoors and out, with independent activities as well as focused ones. Our focused activities give your child’s key person the opportunity to really explore your child’s interest and develop their next steps.

At 4pm it’s time to all come together again for circle time and a story. Sometimes we learn some words in a different language, which we love! Then its time to wash our hands and sit down for tea.

After tea we move into our Hygee room and have some calming mindfulness activities before its time to go home.
