About us

Mission Statement

Abbotswood Preschool and Day Nursery was established to provide a service-led comprehensive all-day care facility to preschool children.

Our Values

Our priority is to offer a balanced and well-rounded beginning for your child and we take this very seriously.  The words we use to describe our values are: caring, fun and education.

Our History

The facility, opened in 1995, was converted from a 150 year old rural Victorian home which is surrounded by rustic outside play areas bordered by oak, beech and horse chestnut trees.

The Owner

Jenny Simmons is a mother of 4 children. Being a business woman and finding best quality childcare in the area a challenge, she realised a full day care facility was needed for the local and extended community. She decided to move next door and convert her home into a day nursery offering an educational environment of fun and learning. After some time of operating, it was necessary to expand into the cottage next door. Her passion and enthusiasm for childcare remain fervent since opening in 1995.

The Staff

We are proud of our management team which consists of 2, Level 5 Early Years Practitioners and 1, Level 4.

All of the staff have enhanced CRB’s, Paediatric First Aid and Food Level 2 Hygiene certificates.

Abbotswood’s experienced management team employ a group approach. We value parents as the child’s first nurturers and educators and, in hand with approachable, professional staff give your child an all encompassing experience.

Staff are qualified and experienced within the Early Years profession and regularly undertake training to extend and update their considerable knowledge.  Abbotswood prides itself on our low turnover of staff and value their individual commitment to delivering optimum care. Staff embrace ‘positive behaviour’, encouraging your child to develop at his/her own rate, building confidence and self esteem to reach his/her fullest potential with caring guidance.

We are OFSTED registered (EY448922) and give a modern service with traditional values. We encourage children to ‘learn through play’ using the Early Years Foundation Stage.

The Cook:

A qualified and experienced cook provides a wonderful four weekly rotational and seasonal menu which uses organic fruit/ veg/ milk, home grown produce, low sugar and salt recipes to produce a nutritionally balanced diet for your child.  Dietary restrictions and allergies are catered for.  Parents can, and often do, request copies of the recipes for use at home.
